About Mini Scientist
The Intel Mini Scientist Exhibition is a program which allows Primary school students to develop science related projects which are then exhibited at fairs held within their own schools. Winning projects are then chosen to go forward to a regional final event which is hosted at Intel in Leixlip, Co. Kildare. In 2008, winners of the regional fair went on to compete at the Primary Science section at the BT Young Scientist and Technology Exhibition 2009. The program supports the Primary Science curriculum and is a great way to encourage enthusiasm and practical learning in the area of science. The initiative aims to encourage a love of science through an investigative approach to learning. The programme is currently targeted at 4th, 5th and 6th class students and typically runs from September to December annually. In 2008, the Exhibition took place at 15 schools in the Kildare region with over 230 projects being exhibited by upwards of 700 students. Program Objectives
- To encourage students to see that science is all around us and that it can be fun and exciting
- To encourage investigation into how, what and why things work the way they do
- To foster a strong interest about science in students before they take on the Junior Cert curriculum in secondary school
- To allow students demonstrate their experience of completing their project and the knowledge gained to the rest of their school
